Ayurvedic Treatment for Obesity

Obesity has become root cause and home for many diseases such as diabetes heart problem such as stroke, high blood pressure, hyper lipidemia high cholesterol levels liver diseases arthritis and so on…… India is facing obesity issues very recently as urbanization has increased drastically modern lifestyle in which people don’t have exertional work but only stress induced work and increasing fast food trends due to lack of time.

According to Ayurveda obesity is just an imbalance of the three dosa’s Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Due to imbalance aama dosa increases in the body and causes more metabolic disturbance is resulting in more kapha dosha.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Obesity: –

according to Ayurveda treatment for obesity consists of Langhana, Pachan, Swedana, Shodhan, Udvartana, etc.

  1. Langhana –

means fasting this is the practice to reduce the calorie intake it can be done through many types as advised by the doctor. It reduces amma dosa and kapha Dosha from the body.

Pachana –

pachana treatment includes medicines which digest the extra formed amadhosha and kaphadosha.


this is the treatment in which steam is given to the body it can be in any form

It can be steam given through a pipe called nadi swed or it can be steam given for whole body at a time this steam includes some Ayurvedic herbs which acts on the lipid layer to melt it down.


this depends on the patient’s body type which type of shodhan is to be done it can be virechan, it can be basti, or it can be vamana too.

By doing this body eliminate toxins which are stored by the body for years and this can be an issue of stagnation of lipid layer which causes obesity.

Udvartana –

in Indian tradition during Diwali a regime is famous called abhang snan that includes oiling of whole body and then massaging a powdered paste which includes fragrance and scrubbing material. This procedure is called udwartana in Ayurveda for obesity herbs which act on lipid layer which helps in scrubbing the stagnant lipids and increases its metabolism are used. This procedure works on the fat layer and also exfoliates the skin. This procedure mainly works when we have to target the fat layer only in suitable areas like belly fat or hips.
